* Essential Oils and H. Pylori
Notable that extracts such as those of: Rosemary, Cinnamon, Clove, Ginger, Turmeric, Licorice, Black Currant, Lemon Verbena, Lemongrass, and Nutmeg were shown effective against H. Pylori in Vitro. Peppermint Oil and Caraway Oil were also used to lower Dyspepsia Symptoms with its anti-inflammatory properties.
"The essential oils of a variety of herbs have antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immune stimulatory activity, and the anti-H. pylori properties of a variety of these extracts have been comprehensively reviewed..."
"Dietary components for treatment of H. pylori infection that have the greatest evidence to support them are broccoli sprouts, cranberry juice, essential oils of a number of spices..." (9).
* Essential Oils and MRSA
"Of the eight EOs (Essential Oils) tested terpeneless cold pressed Valencia orange oil (CPV) and cold pressed citronellal exhibited a high level inhibition against all S. aureus strains"
Noting a "significant inhibitory effect" against MRSA and suggested as a Natural therapeutic agent against MRSA (10).
* Vast and far Reaching Anti-Microbial/ Anti Fungal/ Anti Viral Effects of Essential Oils. Very notably Melaleuca (Tea Tree) and Clove Oils
Essential Oils are very well researched in their battle agains germs. There is a high likelihood that essential oils will be our greatest hope in the war on pathogens and antibiotic resistance created by antibiotics and pharmaceutical companies. From battling MRSA, and battling both viruses and fungi, the rewards to mankind that plants provide are extremely far reaching.
Sesquiterpenes (Cedarwood (98%), Vetiver (97%), Spikenard (93%), Sandalwood (Aloes) 90%, Black Pepper (74%), Patchouli (71%), Myrrh (62%) are known to inhibit cytomegalovirus CMV (linked to mononucleosis and hepatitis) early gene expression.
Noted in compilation the Antiherpes activities of Australian tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil, Melissa officinalis, and thyme oil...
"The essential oils of cinnamon, clove, pimento, thyme, oregano, and rosemary were shown to possess strong antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa"
"Essential oils extracted from oregano, basil, and coriander plants have an inhibitory effect against P. aeruginosa, S. aureus, and Yersinia enterocolitica."
"Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree oil) and its major constituent, terpinen-4-ol, were shown to possess potential antibacterial properties against many pathogens including E. coli, S. aureus, S. epidermidis, E. faecalis, P. aeruginosa, M. avium, H. influenzae, S. pyogenes, and S. pneumoniae."
"Essential oil composition and antibacterial potential of Mentha pulegium, Juniperus phoenicea, and Cyperus longus and concluded that all these oils were effective against food-borne pathogens (S. aureus, L. monocytogenes, E. faecium, S. Enteritidis, E. coli, and P. aeruginosa)."
"Tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) was effective against many fungal pathogens such as Alternaria spp., A. flavus, A. fumigates, A. niger, Blastoschizomyces capitatus, C. albicans, C. glabrata, C. parapsilosis, C. tropicalis, Cladosporium spp., Cryptococcus neoformans, E. floccosum, Fusarium spp., Malassezia furfur, Malassezia sympodialis, Microsporum canis, M. gypseum, Penicillium spp., Rhodotorula rubra, S. cerevisiae, T. mentagrophytes, T. rubrum, T. tonsurans, and Trichosporon sp."
"The major chemical constituent α-caryophyllene (Clove, others...) which occurs in many essential oils of medicinal plants, is considered to be the best antiviral agent."
"Essential oil of lemon balm inhibits influenza virus replication at different replication cycles by directly interacting with the virus particles." (11)
* Essential Oils Against Cancer
"Frankincense oil can discriminate bladder cancer cells and normal urothelial cells in culture. The oil suppresses cell survival and induces apoptosis in cultured bladder cancer cells. Based on this preliminary observation, frankincense oil may represent an alternative intravesical therapy for bladder cancer."(12)
* Essential Oils and Battle on Cancer Cells
"Multitargeted role of Essential oils (EOs) towards cancer prevention" Essential Oil-mediated anti-cancer strategies mentioned include "Cell cycle arrest, Apoptosis, and DNA repair mechanisms." Essential Oils reduce: Cancer cell proliferation (apoptosis mitigated), metastasis, and Multi Drug Resistance...
"Essential Oil is one among the most valuable plant products used in the medicine and complementary treatment strategies."
"Essential Oil from different plants have been reported to have anticancer potential against mouth, breast, lung, prostate, liver cancer, colon cancer, and brain cancer and even in leukemia..." (13)
